The graphics is also not the strongest point of R, but it's a programming language with a decent help system. I used Mysql to hold, organize, reformat my data because it's much easier in SQL than in R.
It is really some work getting used to it - very arcane. The programming language R can be a chore. direct database connection to all kinds of RDBMS, fancy algorithms and more.
